Vat Yellow 4 is a yellow synthetic anthraquinone vat dye. It has the appearance of a viscous orange liquid.
Vat Yellow 4 is used mostly as a dye for textiles and paper.
Together with benzanthrone, it is used in some older pyrotechnic compositions for green and yellow colored smokes.
Vat Yellow 4 is a Group 3 carcinogen according to the IARC, as the evidence of its carcinogenity to humans is inadequate.
